GST registration certificate: how to download the PDF (Form REG-06) — FilingSetu blog guide

Log in, open View/Download Certificates, and save Form GST REG-06 as a PDF.

Your GST registration certificate is Form GST REG-06. To download the PDF, log in at gst.gov.in, go to Services > User Services > View/Download Certificates, and click the download icon. You must be logged in. The official GST guide describes no way to download the certificate without a login.

How to download your GST registration certificate

  1. Go to www.gst.gov.in.
  2. Click Login. Enter your username, password and the captcha.
  3. Click Services > User Services > View/Download Certificates.
  4. You will see every certificate the GST authorities have issued to you, with the newest at the top.
  5. Click the icon in the Download column. The certificate downloads as a PDF.

If you have changed your registration details through an amendment, the amended certificate also shows in this list. Download the newest one.

Just approved? Log in for the first time

When your application is approved, the GST portal emails you your GSTIN and a password. You use these once, to set up your own login.

  1. On gst.gov.in, click Login.
  2. At the bottom of the login page, click the link for first time login.
  3. Enter the GSTIN and the password from the email, and the captcha.
  4. Create your own username and password.
  5. Log in with your new username and password.

On your first login, the portal asks you to add your bank account details. You do this through a non-core amendment. The rule gives you 30 days from the grant of registration. If you file GSTR-1 or use the invoice furnishing facility before that, the bank details are due first.

Did not get the email? Check your application on our GST registration status page. If the status is Approved, the portal's Track Application Status page has a link that sends your first login details again by email and SMS.

Not approved yet? Check your GST ARN status. Approved? See your next steps after approval.

Forgot your username or password?

ProblemWhat to do on the login page
Forgot usernameClick Forgot Username. Enter your GSTIN and the captcha. Enter the OTP sent to your registered email and mobile. Your username is emailed to you.
Forgot passwordClick Forgot Password. Enter your username and the captcha. Enter the OTP. Set a new password.

Can you download it without login, by GST number or by PAN?

No. The official GST guide gives one way to download the certificate, and it starts with logging in. This is the same whether you know the GSTIN, the PAN, or both.

Some websites say you can download the certificate from Search Taxpayer without logging in. The official guide for Search Taxpayer does not say this. Without a login, Search Taxpayer shows:

Shown without loginNot shown
GSTIN and legal nameThe certificate PDF
Trade name
Effective date of registration
Constitution of business
Principal place of business
Date of cancellation, if any
Returns filed

So Search Taxpayer is useful to check that a GSTIN is real and active. It does not give you the certificate. If a customer or supplier asks for your certificate, log in, download the PDF and send it to them.

What your GST registration certificate shows

The table below follows the official blank form, field by field. The example values are made up for this page. They do not belong to any real business.

Annexure BThe proprietor, partners, karta, directors or members, depending on the type of businessNames of the partners

The certificate also carries a note that it must be displayed at all places of business in the State. More on that below.

Why the date of liability can be earlier than the date of issue. If you applied within 30 days of becoming liable to register, your registration counts from the date you became liable. If you applied later, it counts from the date registration was granted.

When you get the certificate, and how long it lasts

The certificate is issued on the GST portal once your application is approved. You download and print it yourself.

SituationWhen the certificate is available
Normal approvalAfter the officer approves. This is normally within 7 working days, or up to 30 days if the application is flagged or the premises are physically verified
The officer does not act in timeRegistration is treated as approved. The certificate is made available within three days after that period ends

You can follow each stage on our GST registration status page.

Does the certificate expire?

Type of registrationValidity
RegularNo end date is printed. It continues until the registration is cancelled
Casual taxable person or non-resident taxable personThe period you asked for or 90 days, whichever is earlier. The officer can extend it by up to 90 more days if you show good reason

Display the certificate at your place of business

The GST rules say every registered person must:

  • display the registration certificate in a prominent place at the principal place of business, and at every additional place of business
  • show the GSTIN on the name board at the entry of each of those places

If you have more than one place of business, Annexure A of your certificate lists them. Put a printed copy up at each one.

No penalty is written specifically for this rule. In our reading, the general penalty in section 125 of the CGST Act would apply. It can go up to ₹25,000.

If the details on your certificate are wrong or have changed

The certificate prints what is in your registration record. To change it, file an amendment on the GST portal. When the amendment is approved, the amended certificate shows in the same View/Download Certificates list. We can file the change for you through our GST registration amendment service.
