Goods codes are the full CBIC HSN list used for GST enrolment. Service codes are the common SAC headings rather than the whole of chapter 99, so check the notified schedule if yours isn’t here. Rates are indicative at heading level and a dash means we don’t list one, always confirm against the notified rate schedule before you invoice.

Codes you can put on an invoice.

HSN codes classify goods; SAC codes classify services. The right code drives the GST rate you charge and report, and how many digits you must show depends on your turnover.

The full enrolment code list. Rates shown are indicative at heading level, we confirm your exact classification and slab during onboarding.
When to use it

When you need the right code.

Setting up invoicesPut the correct HSN/SAC on every tax invoice as the law requires.
Registering for GSTDeclare your goods and services with accurate classifications at registration.
Configuring softwareMap products to the right codes and rates in your billing or accounting tool.
Checking a rateConfirm the GST slab that applies to something you buy or sell.
Exporting / importingUse the harmonised code for customs and shipping documentation.
Filing returnsReport supplies under the correct HSN summary in GSTR-1.
The service behind it

The right code matters most when you register.

A wrong classification means the wrong GST rate on every invoice, and corrections later are painful. Getting it right starts at registration, when your goods and services are first declared.

Our GST Registration service sets you up correctly from day one: we classify your offerings, obtain your GSTIN, and configure your filing cadence.

  • Goods & services classified by an expert
  • GSTIN obtained end to end
  • Correct rates and filing schedule from the start

GST Registration

New to GST? Get registered the right way, with the right codes.

How it works

Type, scan, done.

1
Type a product or service name, like “rice”, “software” or “consulting”.
2
Or enter a code directly, such as “8471” or “9983”, to confirm what it covers.
3
Read the rate. Each result shows the classification and its common GST rate. Some items vary by branding or value, shown as a range.
The method

HSN vs SAC, in short.

How classification works

HSN, goods
Up to 8 digits; broader headings nest into specific sub-headings
SAC, services
Six-digit codes beginning 99… (e.g. 9983 consulting, 9954 construction)
Rate
The slab (5/12/18/28%) follows the classification, not the product name

FAQs

HSN / SAC questions

What’s the difference between HSN and SAC?

HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) classifies goods; SAC (Services Accounting Code) classifies services. Both feed into the GST rate and must appear on tax invoices.

How many digits do I need on my invoices?

It depends on turnover. Broadly, businesses up to ₹5 crore use 4 digits and those above use 6 digits on B2B invoices. We’ll confirm the right level for you.

Where does the GST rate come from?

The rate is fixed by the GST rate schedules tied to each classification, not by the product’s name or your pricing. The codes here show the common rate; edge cases need an Expert’s review.

My product isn’t listed, what now?

This is a curated set of common codes, not the full schedule. Talk to us and we’ll classify your exact goods or services correctly.
