Overview

What is GST Registration?

GST registration gives your business a unique 15-digit GSTIN, letting you legally collect GST, claim input tax credit, and issue tax invoices. It's mandatory once you cross the prescribed turnover threshold, or immediately for certain categories of business regardless of turnover.

Who it's for

Who needs GST registration?

Businesses above the threshold

Once turnover crosses ₹40 lakh (goods) or ₹20 lakh (services) in most states.

E-commerce sellers

Mandatory regardless of turnover if selling through an online marketplace.

Interstate suppliers

Required for any business supplying goods or services across state lines.

Voluntary registrants

Businesses below the threshold registering voluntarily to claim ITC or win larger clients.

ThresholdGST Registration Limit

₹40 lakh annual turnover for suppliers of goods (₹20 lakh in special category states), and ₹20 lakh for suppliers of services (₹10 lakh in special category states). Certain categories — e-commerce sellers, interstate suppliers, casual taxable persons — must register regardless of turnover.

Entity 01Proprietorship

PAN, Aadhaar and address proof of the proprietor, plus business address proof — the simplest registration.

Entity 02Partnership Firm

Partnership deed plus PAN and address proof of all partners.

Entity 03LLP

LLP incorporation certificate, LLP agreement, and DSC of a designated partner.

Entity 04Private Limited Company
